NOTE: a small portion of this tour is closed for construction until Spring.
This Detour can be taken anytime, any day but is best when started between 10am and 4pm to catch all the stops along the route while they’re open.
Central Park gets very crowded on nice days, especially in the afternoons, so if you’re looking for a tranquil experience try early in the day Monday - Friday. For an even more relaxed experience, try a cloudy or cooler day, but every kind of weather brings out a different side of the park’s personality.
Think of this walk as an easy urban hike, be ready for lots of walking and some rugged paths. Wear comfortable shoes and layers, and bring a water bottle. (If you don’t have one there are food and drink vendors around and within the park.)
